Last week, I shared how September feels like my real new year — a time for fresh starts, goal setting, and big dreams. It’s when possibilities feel endless and hope is everywhere… kind of like walking into a perfectly organized office supply store.

You know that feeling? Rows of neatly stacked notebooks, pens, and planners. Everything lined up, full of potential. The promise of order, productivity, and maybe even a whole new you.

That’s how new beginnings feel to me — exciting, hopeful, shiny.

My Not-So-Secret Secret: Hi, I’m Angel, a Serial Quilt Starter

For years, I told myself I just get bored easily. But recently, I’ve realized that’s not quite true.
The Truth?

I adore starting.
Starting new quilt patterns, new fabrics, new projects, new ideas. Starting is thrilling! Finishing… well, let’s just say it doesn’t give me quite the same buzz.

At work, I do finish projects — thank goodness. But in my sewing room?
Let’s just say things are a little… different.

The Solar System of UFOs

In a previous post, I admitted to having more than just a pile of UFOs (that’s unfinished objects for the non-quilters among us).

I said I had a solar system full of them.

Was that a bit dramatic? Maybe.
Was it also painfully close to the truth? Absolutely.

I’m guilty.
I am, without a doubt, a SERIAL QUILT STARTER.

My sewing room isn’t just a room of fabric — it’s a museum of beginnings. Each project represents a moment of inspiration, a burst of energy, or a late-night “what if” idea. And honestly? I wouldn’t trade that joy for anything!!

The Battle Within the Sewing Room

When we moved to our current home, one of my greatest blessings was finally having a dedicated sewing space. It’s smaller than a small bedroom – more like a large walk-in closet, but it’s all mine.

In our last house, I bounced between the dining room table and a tiny desk. Now, I have a space where I can close the door, leave my projects out, and let creativity take over.

At least… that’s the idea.

Here’s the problem:
If I leave too many projects out, I get overwhelmed. The chaos grows, and instead of feeling inspired, I feel stifled. My sewing room stops being a happy place and starts feeling like a quilt graveyard.

Eventually, I find myself skipping it altogether and focusing on other projects.

The Great Clean-Out (Again)

This week, my sewing room hit critical mass. Piles of fabric, half-started projects, stacks of patterns — it was visual noise everywhere.

And I have a big reason to get it under control:
I’m gearing up to reboot my 52 Quilts in 52 Weeks challenge, and I need a space that fuels focus, not distraction.

So, I did what any serial quilt starter must eventually do…
I hit reset.

The result? A clean, clear space that feels like a fresh start. Here are some before and after shots of my sewing room. (Pro tip: the camera makes it look bigger than it really is, but even a small space can be magical when it’s functional.)

Why I’m Sharing That I’m a Serial Quilt Starter

I’m not just confessing for fun — though there is something freeing about admitting my UFO collection could rival a galaxy.

I’m sharing because I know I’m not alone. If you’ve ever felt guilty about unfinished projects, here’s your reminder: it’s okay.

The joy is in the journey — in the spark of excitement that comes from trying something new.

And maybe, just maybe, we can finish a few of those UFOs along the way!
