I can’t tell you how many years I’ve been bugging my husband about my one-day-dream of opening a quilt store or a quilting community online! I first fell in love with quilting when I browsed througha quilt shop in my old hometown of Jacksonville, FL. Olde Green Cupboard (no longer a storefront) mesmerized me with its huge selection of gorgeous fabric, classroom spacewhere I might learn to sew and quilt, and retail space where I could lazily browse and dream about all the things my craft-loving heart could make and gazing eyes could adore.

But truthfully, it started way sooner! I always wanted to learn to sew. My mother was anabsolute saint, but sewing was not her gift. She later explained to me that, as a young girl herself, she witnessed her own mother (my grandmother) plunge a sewing needle through her thumb and was traumatized for life. Per my sweet mother, she was too anxious to ever try sewing herself. In a pinch she could put on a button, but not without much fretting!

Quilting as Self-Care

I’m so glad you’re here! We all need a little ME time and time with friends who share our passions.

Oh how different my experience was! Sewing/quilting is my therapy. My husband and I are quite busy. We have jobs, wildlings for children, a home to care for, and more activities than we typically can manage. I spend my day time providing therapy to others and in my freetime (what free time?), okay in the time that I steal, I sew. I collect fabric. I collect patterns and Pinterest boards. I nostalgically recall Olde Green Cupboard where my love of quilting began, and dream of starting my own modern stitch and chat. That day is today! Welcome to Hoops & Hoots quliting blog – the realization of many years of dreaming! I’m so excited to be on this journey. The goal of Hoops & Hoots (or H&H) is to explore UFOs, finished quilts, and creative adventures designed to inspire your own handmade journey!
